Chinese medical team arrives Nigeria to support efforts against COVID-19

Medical experts from China have arrived Nigeria to support the country’s efforts in the fight against coronavirus.

The medical team arrived at  the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday evening.

The team comprised doctors and nurses numbering about 15.

They were received by a delegation of the federal government and officials of the Chinese embassy.

The experts arrived with some medical supplies as earlier mentioned by the minister of health, Osagie Enahire.

The minister had said the experts would arrive with medical supplies donated by some Chinese companies working in Nigeria.

“I have been notified of medical supplies from China, courtesy of a group of Chinese companies working here in Nigeria,” he had said.

“An 18-man team of Chinese medical experts including doctors, nurses and other medical advisers shall come along with the flight to assist us. I must at this juncture commend our frontline workers who are doing a great job in case identification and management.”

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) had earlier condemned the intervention of the Chinese medical experts, saying the federal government should rather empower its members to perform better.

In response, the federal government said the experts won’t have access to the coronavirus patients.
