Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea has been named the Uefa Champions League player of the week for his heroic performance in his side’s goalless draw against Sevilla on Wednesday night.

His magnificent performance at the Roman Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in United’s first leg tie against the Spanish side, saw him poll 48% votes to pip the ward ahead of Thomas Muller, Willian and Fred who also had wonderful performances in their clubs’ CL matches.

The 27-year- old who pulled eight saves and two clearances, ensured the Red Devils survived plenty of pressure from Vicenzo Montella’s side, and kept their hopes of qualifying for the quarter final for the first time in four years alive.

Chelsea forward, Willian was voted the second best player of the week, after being the stand-out performer for the Blues in their 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. The Brazilian having had two of his shots denied by the woodwork in the first half, finally broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute to hand his side the lead. Although they lost the lead 15 minutes from time after Lionel Messi scored his first ever goal against the west London side.

Bayern Munchen forward, Thomas Muller who scored a brace and assisted Robert Lewandowski’s 2nd at the Allianz Arena in his side’s 5-0 thumping of Besiktas on Tuesday night, came third according to votes conducted by UEFA.

Fred who inspired Shakhtar Donetsk’s comeback against AS Roma in Ukraine came fourth. The 24-year- old scored his side’s winning goal with a stunning free-kick which fizzed over the wall and into the net via a pleasing kiss off the cross bar.
