Barakat Bello, a 18-year-old girl, has reportedly been raped and consequently killed by her attackers at her father’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The sad incident, it was gathered, happened on Monday at the Akinyele area of Ibadan.Her lifeless body, was however, found on Tuesday around their residence.
Barakat, until her death, was said to be a student of the Federal College of Animal and Production Technology, Moore Plantation, Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State,
Father of the deceased, Kasimu Elepo, explained he was not around when the incident occurred.
“I was not at home when the incident happened. The victim’s younger sister was not at home too; she went for Quaranic lessons, but when she returned home, she saw Barakat at the back of the house with deep cuts all over her body. She had been raped and killed,” he was quoted as saying by Sahara Reporters.
“Somebody called me on the phone that I should come home, but he refused to tell me what happened. When I got home, I saw that my daughter had been raped and hacked to death.”
It was gathered that the deceased has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Her death had come barely a week after a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Vera Omozuwa, was also raped and brutalised while reading inside a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Benin.
It also comes about the same time when the Senate called on relevant agencies to administer stiffer punishment for sex offenders in the country to discourage the practice.
Barakat’s death has continued to generate outrage on social media with many Nigerians calling on authorities to ensure perpetrators of the evil act are brough to book using the hashtag #JusticeForBarakat.
